Butte Takes Series Over Redwoods in Wild 3-Game Set

Game 1: Redwoods 17, Butte 16 (13 innings)

Game one turned into an instant classic, despite a slow start offensively for both teams. The Corsairs capitalized on multiple Butte miscues to build a 9-0 lead by the seventh inning.

Butte's comeback began with a grand slam from Jack Selfridge in the bottom of the seventh. The Roadrunners continued to chip away, highlighted by a Cole Davis home run in the eighth to cut the deficit to 9-7.

In the ninth, Selfridge reached base ahead of a game-tying home run by Tyler Porter, sending the contest into extras.

With the international tiebreaker in effect beginning in the 11th, both teams traded blows. Porter delivered again in the 11th with a game-tying RBI double, and in the 12th, Butte erased a four-run deficit with key contributions from Ryan Pearson, Kolbey Stolpe, and Porter—who tied the game for the third time.

Redwoods plated three in the 13th to regain the lead. Butte mounted one final rally, loading the bases before Ben Barley drove in two runs to bring the Roadrunners within one. However, the comeback fell just short as Redwoods escaped with a 17-16 win.

Game 2: Butte 19, Redwoods 6 (7 innings, 10-run rule)

After the marathon opener, Butte wasted no time bouncing back in game two.

Redwoods struck first with a two-run homer from Kamole Gilliland, but Butte answered immediately and took control in the second inning. A two-run double by Selfridge, followed by a Porter RBI and a Davishome run, gave the Roadrunners a 6-2 lead.

Redwoods briefly tied the game in the fifth, but Butte responded with a four-run inning sparked by Pearson, Stolpe, and Brady Alves.

The decisive blow came in the sixth, when the Roadrunners erupted for nine runs. Davis highlighted the inning with a two-run triple, finishing just a double shy of the cycle. Patience at the plate also played a major role, as Butte drew multiple walks to keep the rally alive.

Connor Blackburn closed the door with a perfect seventh inning to secure the 19-6 run-rule victory.

Game 3: Butte 7, Redwoods 4

In the series finale, Butte completed the suspended game two before securing the series win in game three.

The Roadrunners struck early, with Alves driving in a run in the second inning. Butte added runs in the third and fourth, including an RBI single from Davis and another RBI knock from Selfridge.

Redwoods battled back in the fifth, scoring four runs to tie the game. Butte responded immediately, capitalizing on baserunners and a defensive miscue to retake the lead. Alves added a sacrifice fly to help extend the advantage.

Starting pitcher Brayden Bruno delivered a strong outing, going seven innings and allowing four runs. Relievers Nicolas Guidry and Nathan Brown shut the door to secure the 7-4 win and clinch the series.

Series Summary

Butte's resilience defined the weekend. After falling just short in a 13-inning thriller, the Roadrunners responded with 26 runs over the final two games to take the series. Key offensive performances from Selfridge, Porter, Davis, and Alves powered Butte, while strong pitching in the finale sealed the series victory.
